The analogue phone network is closing
Openreach is retiring the old analogue phone network (the PSTN) and withdrawing the line rental products that run on it. The final deadline is 31 January 2027, and engineering slots get harder to book as it approaches. Openreach has said there is no extension to the deadline. A temporary emergency fallback is planned, but it is a last resort, not a plan, and equipment that quietly depends on an analogue line can stop working if it is not moved in time.
What often depends on a phone line
- Business phone lines and ISDN systems
- Alarms and monitoring
- Lift and emergency phones
- Door entry systems
- Card machines
- Fax lines and some older broadband services
I can list what you have, find out what depends on it, plan the move to a digital service and keep your numbers working throughout.

Communications that fit the way you work
Whether you are replacing a traditional phone system, reviewing costs or improving connectivity, I can help you make the right decision without unnecessary jargon or vendor pressure. I look at users, call flows, numbers, broadband, resilience, support and total cost.
Hosted VoIP
Flexible cloud-based phone systems supporting office, remote and mobile working.
3CX solutions
Planning, deployment, migration and ongoing support for 3CX platforms.
Broadband & connectivity
Business connectivity selected around performance, resilience, location and budget.
Legacy migration
A managed route from older phone services, ISDN and analogue-dependent devices.
Number porting
Support with number migration, supplier coordination and continuity during change.
Supplier reviews
An independent look at contracts, costs and service levels before renewal.
Common reasons to review
- Rising costs
- Poor supplier support
- Legacy equipment
- Multiple disconnected suppliers
- The PSTN switch-off
A joined-up communications review
The objective is a service that is dependable, understandable and proportionate to the organisation.
Where I work
Phone and broadband changes often need someone on site for handsets, wiring and testing. I cover Chesham, Amersham, High Wycombe and Beaconsfield, and work remotely with organisations further afield.
Frequently asked questions
What happens to my phone lines when the PSTN closes?
Services that depend on the analogue network will need to move to a digital alternative, such as VoIP over broadband. I can check what you have and plan the change so your numbers and key equipment keep working.
Is it too late to switch before the deadline?
Not yet, but time is getting short. Number porting, new circuits and engineer visits all take time, so the sooner we look at what you have, the more options you keep.
Can I keep my existing telephone numbers?
In many cases, yes. I can check the existing service, explain the porting process and help plan the change carefully.
Do you supply and support 3CX?
Yes. I can help with 3CX planning, deployment, migration and ongoing support.
Can you review broadband at the same time?
Yes. Voice and connectivity are closely linked, so it normally makes sense to review performance and resilience together.
